On March 31st, we conducted an introduction workshop on money management with Borey Komar (Children of Asia)’s children in Phnom Penh. Children were split in three groups according to their age group. The youngest were shown a cartoon in Khmer telling the story of two children, one managing his money and one mismanaging it. Children had to spot the differences. Older students (12-14 years) also practised shopping with a limited amount of money. Once they ran out of money, they had to “work” and thus discovered that money is limited and needs to be spent wisely. High school children worked on a budget and spending priorities, as they will soon have to pay for their living expenses- whether they go to university or start working. We also gave different activity ideas to Borey Komar staff to keep the momentum and help children practise managing their money.
